    Pakhal Tirumal Reddy (1915-1996) was an Indian artist who graduated from the JJ School of Art in Bombay in 1939. He was a founding member of the group "Bombay Contemporary India Artists" and was a precursor of modern Indian painting. His style evolved from realism to a struggle between asserting his Indian identity and post-impressionist influences. After India's independence in 1947, Reddy's work became more abstract and reflected Buddhist, Hindu, and Tantric symbols and structures. He engaged in a dialogue with contemporary life and politics, creating works that touched on poverty, labor movements, and social change wrought by Indian independence.
