    Paolo de Matteis was born in Piano Del Cilento in 1662. He one of the most celebrated artists of his time, revealing himself among the most refined and brilliant interpreters of the European painting trends between Arcadia and Rococo. A pupil of Luca Giordano in Naples, the painter worked for the major European royal clients. He lived in Paris during the first decade of the eighteenth century and broke away from the initial formation elaborating a style full of suggestions. This renewal succeeded in freeing itself from the jordanism of fashion and anticipating Francesco Solimena as early as the last decade of the seventeenth century, conceiving a renewed aesthetic and formal vocabulary.
