About Paolo Monaldi

  • Biography

Paolo Monaldi was born in Rome in 1710 and started his artistic training at the studio of Paolo Anesi (1697-1773), but the works of Andrea Locatelli (1695-1741) also had a great impact on his development as a genre and landscape painter.

Monaldi found great success amongst the patrons of the Palazzo Rospigliosi and the Palazzo Braschi. Besides, he was also active for the Accademia di San Luca.

Today, Monaldi is especially well-known for his Bambocciata painting. On the basis of Lanzi, Stefano Ticozzi cited him as 'not ignoble painter bambocciate' in his Dictionary of Painters (1818).

    He died c. 1779.
