Later he attended the High School of Music and Art - the school made famous in the movie FAME – and was in its first graduating class in 1939. His student paintings gained the attention of New York Mayor Fiorrello LaGuardia, who displayed several in the Mayor’s office. During his college years he studied at NYU, Temple University’s Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, the University of Iowa, and at the University of California Berkley.
