    Paul Thiem (1858-1922) Paul Thiem first studied art history in Munich and then attended the Munich Academy where he was a pupil of Nikolaus Gysis, Karl Raupp and Ludwig von Löfftz. From 1896 onwards the artist lived and worked in Starnberg. Thiem's early creative period is defined by romantic, fantastic and humorous drawings. Later he created numerous impressionist landscapes and portraits as well as lively cityscapes of Munich and Venice. Besides painting Thiem illustrated children's books and wrote novels.
