    Abstract painter Paule Vézelay was born as Marjorie Watson-Williams in 1892 in Bristol, England. She studied in London and visited Paris in 1920, making it her home a few years later. She mixed with many famous artists of the School of Paris, and adopted the name Paule Vézelay. She lived with Surrealist painter André Masson from 1929 to 1932 and in 1934 she joined the group Abstraction-Création, forming life-long friendships with Sophie Tauber-Arp and Jean Arp. Besides painting, she also wrote articles and made plaster sculptures and avant-garde constructions known as 'Lines in Space' which were first exhibited in Paris in 1937.
