Peter Hayes was born in Birmingham. After he studied at the Birmingham College of Art, he traveled to Africa, India, Japan, Korea, and New Mexico, where he worked as a ceramic artist with tribes. He was inspired to use limited technology and tools. He combined techniques derived from the landscape and his natural surroundings.
