    Piotr Stachiewicz was born in 1858 in Poland. He was a painter and illustrator. He graduated from the Lviv University of Technology. In the years 1877-1883 he studied painting at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow, including with J. Matejko, and in the years 1883-1885 at the Munich Academy with O. Seitz. He traveled to Italy and the Holy Land. Piotr Stachiewicz painted genre scenes, portraits, salon studies of elegant ladies and girls in folk costumes, and paintings on religious themes, the most famous of which is the series "Legend about the Mother of God" from 1892-1893. He created a series of paintings based on the novel by H. Sienkiewicz and poetry A. Mickiewicz. He dealt with book illustration, illustrating, inter alia, "Quo vadis?...
