Pol Cassel was born in 1892 in Munich. From 1921 the house at the quarry above the Elbe played a central role in Pol Cassel's universe, because it offered him the opportunity to live his philosophy and worldview from a direct experience of nature. Cassel had set it up in the former blacksmith's house of a disused quarry near the Saxon town of Wehlen. It was in this idyll that he developed his magical realism, which helped him achieve his artistic breakthrough between 1924 and 1925.
