Biography
Verdugo Landi had Emilio Ocón as his undisputed teacher, an outstanding 19th century sailor of whom he was the favorite disciple. He soon learned to capture with subtlety the emotions revealed by the landscape, the sea and the horizon, as well as the atmospheres and tonalities. The sea is the absolute protagonist of his work, and his figure as a marine painter began to be recognized in the eighties of the nineteenth century, when his works began to circulate in Malaga. He was a regular participant in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, winning third medals in 1899 and 1906 for the paintings "Oleaje" and "Alta mar", and second medals in 1910 and 1929, for the canvases "Marina" and "Por la ría de Bilbao".
