Richard Stipl is a Czech visual artist based in Prague. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art with an honours degree in 1992 and in the same year received the prestigious Governor General's Award. Although he began as a painter, he has devoted himself to sculpture. Using himself as a model, his busts and figures present a marked expressiveness, symbolism and disturbing hyperrealism, and develop various contemporary themes such as consumerism, totalitarianism and the consequences of globalisation.
