About Richard Thuss

  • Biography

Richard Thuss, born in Nuremberg, studied in Vienna, Munich and Nuremberg. Late in life (after 1930) he lived in Cincinnati untill his death in 1945. From 1918 to 1930 Thuss was the chief sculptor for the Bergmann Foundry and executed many of the highly prized sculptures that are signed Nam-Greb, Thuss, or with a B within an urn design (those that were not designed by Franz the elder).

Not all sculptures are signed or marked. Animals, Erotic figures, Orientalist figures, Roman soldiers, western figures, historic personages, sports figures, lamps, desk sets, bell pushes, book-ends, mirrors, smoking related, racist figures and almost every conceivable thought that could be turned into a bronze was cast!
