    Robert "Bob" William Montana was born in Stockton, CA on October 23, 1920. "Bob" Montana moved to New York and studied at the Phoenix Art Institute. In 1942 he created the comic strip, Archie, for Pep Comics which later appeared in 700 newspapers across the nation.

    He died of a heart attack while skiing near his home in Meredith, New Hampshire on January 4, 1975.
