However, after the war he spent two years teaching himself how to sculpt. Adams soon specialized in sculpture working in wood, plaster and stone. From 1933 to 1944, Adams studied at the Northampton School of Art. He visited Paris in the late 1940's where he met, among others, Brancusi and Laurens. Adams had his first solo exhibition in 1947 at Gimpel Fils in London. He began teaching at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London in 1949; here he learned how to weld and work with metal. Robert Adams was born in Northampton, England in 1917.
In his early life, he studied life drawing at a local art school. During WWII Adams worked as an engineer. However, after the war he spent two years teaching himself how to sculpt. Adams soon specialized in sculpture working in wood, plaster and stone.
From 1933 to 1944, Adams studied at the Northampton School of Art. He visited Paris in the late 1940's where he met, among others, Brancusi and Laurens.
