    Robert Schmidt-Hamburg, also known as "The New Rump," was born in Berlin in 1885 and passed away in Laboe in 1963. He was a self-taught artist who gained recognition for his work as a painter, lithographer, and illustrator. Schmidt-Hamburg signed his works with the nickname "Hamburg" starting from 1910. He began his career as a sailor in 1901 and later served in the Imperial Navy during World War I. His drawings of ships and battles during this time became popular illustrations for the press. The artist found a patron in the Hamburg shipowner Ballin and created numerous commissioned motifs for the Imperial Navy....
