    Rolf Müller-Landau was born in China, but spent his childhood with relatives in Lohr am Main, until his parents returned to Germany in 1910 and moved with him to Landau. He studied from 1922 to 1929 at the Badische Landeskunstschule, from 1924 as a master student under Ernst Gustav Würtenberger.

    As he settled in 1930 as a freelance artist in Landau, he supplemented his original name with the suffix ‘Landau’. In 1945, Muller-Landau with co-founded with other artists the Palatine secession, whose members, for example, included Edvard Frank, Hans Purrmann, HAP Grieshaber, Werner Gilles and Gustav Seitz.
