    Roman Havelka was born April 30, 1877 in the town of Jemnice, (Czech Republic). When he was eight, his family moved to the multi-ethnic town of Jihlava, where young Roman received a German education and compliments from his teachers on his artistic abilities.

    After his high school years at the Academy of Applied Arts (Prague) he moved on to the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague where he studied with Julie Marak (1832-1899), the noted impressionist Antonin Slavicek (1870-1910) and Rudolf von Ottenfeld. After graduation he furthered his training in Dresden and Munich and received a travel-scholarship to Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina. His work was ultimately exhibited in maj...
