Ronnie Smith graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1969, during a period when the school was producing many of the country’s leading painters. He studied under David Donaldson, Alexander Goudie Shanks, and James D. Robertson, influences that helped shape his disciplined approach to colour, structure, and pictorial space.

Smith’s work is inspired by his long-standing fascination with both the Mediterranean and the Highlands of Scotland.
