    Since childhood, Rubén Leyva was in contact with art by his uncle the painter José Zúñiga and his father. In 1972 he attended the School of Fine Arts of the Benito Juarez Autonomous University of Oaxaca, studying painting and screen printing.

    Leyva painted everyday subjects, but gradually was deciding to leave the everyday and started applying more and what he caught his attention, and that was how he discovered his own style, which was a free and spontaneous painting, full of expressiveness.
