    Samuel Andrews was born in 1767 and passed away in 1807. A British miniaturist, Andrews was known for his portrait miniatures painted en grisaille on ivory. He worked primarily in Madras, Pulicat, Calcutta, and Patna, India, where his distinctive style gained popularity among East India Company officials and their families.

    Andrews moved to Madras in 1791, possibly sharing a studio with John Smart, another renowned miniaturist. His works often featured bust-size compositions, delicately painted in shades of grey or umber, with Chinese white highlights on attire and occasional flesh tints on cheeks.
