    Sigurd Swane was born the 16 June, 1879 at Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. During 1900-1902 he studied at the Royal Academy of Arts, and from 1904 to 1906 was under the sound and stimulating guidance of Kristian Zahrtmann (see AskART). He meanwhile, before going to Zahrtmann, made his debut at Charlottenborg, and in 1907, after completing his studies at home, spent considerable time in Paris.

    It was in Paris that he absorbed to the full the new gospel which at that period had barely become known in Copenhagen, and on his return naturally cast his lot with the Frie Udstilling* of which he is one of its strongest pillars.
