    Sonia Cornwall was a painter who was born in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada and lived and worked on a ranch near there all her life. She is the daughter of a rancher (C.G. "Deadwood" Cowan), and her husband Hugh Cornwall (1912 - 2001) was the president of the Cattlemen's Association and is in the British Columbia Cowboy Hall of Fame. Her mother is the artist Vivien Cowan.

    Cornwall's mediums are oil and watercolour. Her subjects are ranch life and landscapes. Her style is Canadian Impressionist, Fauve and Expressionist. It is much influenced by A.Y. (Alexander Young) Jackson (see AskART) a family friend and frequent visitor to her Onward ranch on painting trips.
