He was known for his paintings of characters, flowers, birds, animals, insects, and fish. In 1853, he moved to Shaobo and Guocun due to the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom's invasion of Yangzhou, but later returned to Yangzhou. He was taught by Bao Shetian and later by Shu Huayan. He died in 1877
