About Sven Gunnar Alfons

  • Biography

Sven Gunnar Alfons, born September 5, 1918 in Lund, died September 16, 1996 in Danderyd, was a Swedish author, art critic and artist. He was married to Harriet Alfons and thereby son-in-law to Ragnar Josephson.

As a poet with a departure in the 1940s, Sven Alfons stood relatively free from the Swedish periodical anxiety-laden metaphor. Instead, in the visionary airy and enigmatic poetry he portrayed, preferences for English-language modernism are perceived, at Ezra Pound and T.S. Eliot.

He published books about Carl Larsson and Arcimboldo.
