    In 1975 when Tram was just eight years old, he fled Vietnam with his family and settled in Denver where as a child he made his own version of Impressionist paintings. He attended the Pratt Institute in New York City and now lives in Los Angeles.

    Described in Art in America, January 2002 as "perhaps the most interesting of the slew of young abstract painters currently inundating the L.A. scene, "Tam Van Tran is known for his tightly structured grids distinguished by vibrant coloration. He uses bright colors, acrylic paint, to fill in the spaces, and the finished pieces resemble aerial maps of symmetrical spacework.
