    Theodore Caruelle d'Aligny was born in 1798.

    Theodore was a student of Jean-Baptiste Regnault and Louis Étienne Watelet,

    Théodore Caruelle d'Aligny went to Italy from 1824 to 1827, where he met Camille Corot.

    He then exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1827 onward, then returned to Italy from 1834 to 1836.

    In 1843, Theodore left for Greece to produce a series of drawings of the main ancient sites commissioned by the École des beaux-arts.

    He is known as one of the precursors of the Barbizon School, a village he discovered in the 1820s.

    The artist passed away in 1871.
