    Tom Hold (1843-?)

    The eldest son of Thomas and Mary Hold, Tom was born in 1843 in Barnsley and is thought to be the brother of painters John Hold, Abel Hold and Ben Hold. All four of these Victorian artist specialized wildlife, birds and sometimes birds nests with eggs. Mr. Tom Hold was also a carver and gilder.

    Given the information on the back of his paintings, it is believed he spent most of his life in the Westgate Barnsley area in the United Kingdom. He was one of nine children, six brothers and three sisters.
