    Tom Hopkins BFA, MFA (1944 - 2011)

    A popular Canadian painter, printmaker and educator, Tom Hopkins was born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island and died in Montreal, Quebec, which had been his home since the early 1970s.

    His mediums included oil, gouache*, ink, etching*, aquatint*, drypoint*, charcoal, pastel and mixed mediums. His subjects were landscapes, shorelines, still lifes, nudes, portraits, figures, boats, city views, symbolism*, dreams, allegory*, social commentary, shape, color and texture. His style was Surrealism*. His most well-known works are large format oils depicting romantic surreal landscapes or shorelines. Good examples of this are the AskART illustrations titled Retrieval and Nocturne.
