About Tom Hutcheson

  • Biography

Tom Hutcheson was a Scottish artist who studied at Glasgow School of Art in the 1940s and later became a successful art teacher. He was a dedicated painter, with a focus on the landscape of the West of Scotland, particularly the mining areas of Ayrshire and Lanarkshire. His work emphasized color and texture over topographical detail, and he believed that color was the most important element in painting for expressing emotion and feeling. Hutcheson exhibited publicly from 1949 onwards and his work is held in many public and private collections at home and abroad. He died suddenly in 1999 while collecting work at the close of an exhibition
