About Tony Vevers

  • Biography

    London born, Tony Vevers was a painter and art historian who emigrated from England during World War II. He studied at Yale University and in Florence, Italy.

    In the 1950s, he moved to Provincetown, Massachusetts "where he became a central figure in the art community." At the Sun Gallery in 1958, he had his first solo show, which featured his landscape paintings. Later he made collages, incorporating rope and sand into his artwork.

    He taught at Purdue University for more than 20 years, and in 1977, co-founded the Long Point Gallery in Provincetown.
