Ulisse Caputo was born in Salerno in 1872 and received his early art education from his father, a stage-set designer. He furthered his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Naples and later moved to Paris in 1899, where he became part of the circle of Italian artists living in the city. Caputo was influenced by the ideas of international impressionist artists and his work became known for its handling of light and color.
