    Tikal first became acquainted with surrealism in the late 1930s through reproductions of surreal paintings in the Minotaur review. This acquaintance was crucial for Tikal and influenced his work for several more decades. Especially the paintings of Salvadore Dali and Georgio Chirico.

    Tikal himself said in an interview: "It was a revelation for me. I have seen that this is the only way to express oneself the fury of the events of our time. That's why I became more deeply interested in surrealism.

    An important Czech author, who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, he continued in the time of World War II. Through Otto Mizera contacts with the Czech surrealists, he gradually became friends with members of the Sporilo...
