Following is the obituary of the artist:

RICHMOND -- Vernon George Broe, 81, of Richmond, passed away on Aug. 27, 2011. He was born in Western Springs, Ill., on July 18, 1930. A noted Northeastern artist of marine and still life paintings, he studied at the American Academy of Art, the University of Illinois, Chicago's Institute of Design, and the San Francisco Art Institute.

He is much loved by his daughter, Michelle Broe of Santa Rosa, Calif. He is also survived by his sister, Jan Keyes of New Jersey; his niece, Dana Bozza of New Jersey; and his former spouse, Leah Bowman of Chicago, Ill.

A private service will be held.
