  • Biography

    Born in Paris, France on Sept. 19, 1907 of American parents. Cheney grew up in Berkeley, CA. At 16 he entered UC, continuing a long family tradition. He then studied art in Paris at Ecole des Beaux Arts, with Hans Hofmann in St Tropez, and received an M.A. degree from Columbia University. During the 1930s he lectured at Mills College, and taught sculpture at the CCAC as well as at the San Francisco Academy of Advertising Art. In 1958 he began a new career in psychology with degrees from University of Arizona and University of Munich. After 1966 he worked in Berkeley as a psychologist and marriage counselor.
