    Artist Li Wentian was born in 1834.


    Li Wentian, who styled himself as Yuguang, Zhongyue, Shaonong, and Ruonong, was a native of Shunde, Guangdong province who came third in the Imperial examinations.


    On top of being a calligrapher, Li was a collector of books and a painter. He was adept at writing in the seal, clerical and regular scripts, but was particularly outstanding in the semi-cursive script.


    Li, along with Lu Runxiang, Lu Baozhong, and Xu Zheng, often inscribed on the paintings of Empress Dowager Cixi at her request.


    Li Wentian passed away in 1895.
