    The painter Werner Augustiner was born in Graz in 1922.

    He attended the School of Applied Arts in Graz from 1936 to 1940, followed by studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna where he was educated by Karl Sterrer and Albert Paris Gütersloh. Various study trips led him to Italy, Turkey, and Greece.

    Augustiner's painting was influenced by French Expressionism. His motifs were mostly landscapes, nudes, and genre scenes as well as scenes from Christian iconography.
