About Wilhelm Freddie

  • Biography

    Wilhelm Freddie (1909-1995)

Danish artist who, among other things, helped introduce surrealism to Denmark at the Artists' Autumn Exhibition in 1930, later a leading figure in surrealism in the Nordic countries. In 1944, Freddie was forced to flee to Sweden during the war, where he lived and worked until 1950.

*Wilhelm Freddie lived in Sweden during the period 1944-1950 and dedicated other works to Arne Häggqvist (1911-1985, Swedish translator and cultural profile) during the 1940s, when Häggqvist also edited the Ars Konstserie in 1945 with Freddie's works, which is why 1944 is considered likely.
