About Wilhelm Kray

    Prior to his studies at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin, Wilhelm Kray worked as a goldsmith. Since 1848 he learned the skills of landscape and portrait painting under Julius Schrader and Wilhelm Schirmer. Between 1867/71, Kray lived in Rome as a member of the German Association of artists. Meanwhile, he undertook numerous trips to Naples. After further stays in Berlin and Venice he settled in 1878 in Vienna, and six years later in Munich.

    His specialties include the depictions of wood nymphs and mermaids in fantastic landscapes, as well as glossy lighting. (bde)
