    Wilhelm Schmurr was a Düsseldorf painter, born in 1878 in Hagen. He was a student of Ev Gebhardt and C. Meyer, a professor at the Dusseldorf Academy. In 1908 Wilhelm Schmur joined the artist Malkasten in Dusseldorf.  A year earlier he had received a small gold medal at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition.  His influences are clearly attributable to the Symbolism and the Pre-Raphaelites.
