    After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sweden, Wilhelm von Gegerfelt (Gothenburg 1844-1820 Torekov) traveled to Düsseldorf in 1867, where he stayed for five years. In 1871 he received the Royal Academy's Royal Medal.

    From Düsseldorf, the journey was made in 1872 to Paris, where he soon became at home and gained connections with the art trade. He helped his countrymen with advice and deeds, and the home seems to have been a gathering place for the Scandinavian artists for many years.

    He won the trust of Carl Fredrik Hill and has possibly aroused his interest in the French north coast, which became so important in Hill's painting. Gegerfelt seems to have been one of the few among the contemporary Swedish painters who was...
