William Gunning-King, Gunning King
  • Biography

    Gunning King (1859-1940)

He lived in South Harting, Hants, where Anthony Trollope (died 1882) lived for the last 2 years of his life.

Thomas Wingate, whose relative lived in South Harding while King was there shares the following:

A cousin of my father was a little girl around the time of WW I. Gunning King sketched her as a child. She had the sketch. She related to me how this artist would 'scare' the children as they knew he would ask them to pose for his sketches and they would waste time doing so. So, they would try to cut loose!

The artist drew various people in the village. Evidently Gunning King was a kind man. A large cartoon of The Village Choir
