    Wladyslaw Dutkiewicz was a painter, sculptor, writer, actor, stage designer and theatre director. After fighting as a Polish partisan during World War II, he escaped from a Nazi Concentration Camp at the end of the war and fled across Czechoslovakia to the Allied Zone in southern Germany, where he found refuge in a Polish DP camp.

    He worked as camp administrator, teacher and ran his own theatrical troupe, Teatr Nowy, which toured DP camps in the region. He showed his paintings first in UNRRA exhibitions in post-war Germany, and migrated to Australia in 1949.
