    Wladyslaw Skoczylas was born in 1883 in Wieliczka. He was a painter, graphic artist, sculptor, teacher and art critic. From 1901 he studied sculpture at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, then sculpture and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow with Axentowicz and Wyczólkowski (1904-1906), sculpture with Bourdell in Paris (1910) and graphics in Leipzig (1913). From 1908, Wladyslaw Skoczylas lived in Zakopane for several years, where he taught drawing at the School of Wood Industry, and he was a co-founder of the Podhale Art Society and the "Kilim" weaving workshop.
