    He was born in 1950 in Arat Kilo, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Kosrof studied at the School of Fine Arts in Addis Ababa from 1967 to 1972, graduating with distinction and receiving an Award from Emperor Haile Selassie. From 1975-76 he was the first alumnus invited to become a faculty member at the school.

    In 1978, he came to the U.S. and settled in Washington, D.C., where he began his M.F.A. studies at Howard University. Kosrof completed his degree in 1980, and in 1984 moved to Plainfield, Vermont, to teach at Goddard College. From 1989 to 2000 he also taught summer courses in acrylic painting to high school students at Vermont Governor's Institute on the Arts.
