Xu Xiao-Yan is graduated from the Art Department of Hebei Normal University. Her works were included in the first Biennial Chinese Oil Paintings Exhibition in 1993, the Exhibition of Works by Chinese Women Artists in 1995, "Into the New Century-the Exhibition of Oil Paintings by Young Chinese Artists" in 1997, and the Centennial Art Exhibition by Women Artists at the National Art Museum and the Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Landscape Painting and Oil Landscape Painting in 1998. Xu Xiao-Yan focused on the depiction of natural views.
