Bai XueShi is a painter of the northern school of landscape. Bai widely adopted a variety of knowledge, and absorbed the essence of different types of painting. His paintings have element of the rigorous painting of the Song dynasty, the lively feeling of painting of the Yuan Dynasty, with the richness of watercolor painting.

Bai explored famous mountains and rivers such as Huangshan, Mount Taishan, the Three Gorges, Mount Taihang and so on. He created landscape works with his unique style using traditional techniques. Landscape of Huangshan, Taishan and Guilin are filled with spirituality and vitality under his pen. You can see Bai’s painting style especially in his painting of the green landscape of Guilin. His unique painting method of the Guilin landscape is called “Bai school landscape“. Bai visited Guilin in Guangxin over ten times from 1972, sketched along the both side of Lijiang River while hiking. He gathered many source materials, cleverly using the line of stones, and dense and clear color of ink to set up the green and bright artistic concept by contrast, presenting the charming scenery of Guilin perfectly.
