Mao Xu-Hui was born in Sichuan Province, China, and graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of Yunnan Arts University, majoring in oil painting. He now teaches in Humanities College in Yunnan University.
Mao took great participation in art's innovative movement during his teenager. He paints mainly on still life and presents his artistic concept through expressionism skill. His later works focus more and more on a unique object - scissor.
To ordinary people, scissor is nothing but a piece of daily commodity. Generally, there were artists who create upon scissors. But Mao is probably second to none who continuously sticks to scissors as his creating subject for more than ten years. Perhaps it is his mother's usage of scissors that gave him such great fascination and unique feeling to it.
