Back in his homeland, he was offered a personal exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Shanghai and over the years became known as a painter and a professor of aesthetics since he gave lectures at the University of Beijing. Since the 1990s his style inherited from Chinese culture has changed. He still uses his calligraphy material of ink and rice paper but the patterns are increasingly abstract.
