René Bertholo was an abstract and neofigurative painter born in Alhandra, Portugal in 1935. He studied at the António Arroio School of Decorative Arts and the Lisbon School of Fine Arts, and received a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Bertholo was a co-founding member of the KWY group in Paris and exhibited individually in Lisbon in various years.
