Alois was one of the first documented abstract artists at U.S. He was a student of Max Pirner at the Academy of Fine Arts. After graduating he went to Paris. While there he was in contact with František Kupka, with whom also exhibited at the Salon in 1914. France was a very interesting and inspiring place for Bilek. He stayed there for a long time. Artist Alois Bilek died in 1960 in France.
